722. State Fair (1962)

*The Warlock is standing next to Lucinda on Hell’s Highway looking haggard up against his car*

L: You look exhausted.

W: I’ve been going non-stop since I jump started the S.O.F. Project.

L: You definitely need a rest. But first….you have some unfinished business.

*Warlock shakes his head*

W: What now?

L: Remember years ago you forgot to do that Ann Margret movie?

W: Which one?

L: STATE FAIR?

W: Oh yeahhhhhh, I was supposed to watch that with Mr. America but the DVD wouldn’t burn so I had to go with Bus Riley’s Back In Town, that movie sucked dick.

L: Now’s the time to finish it.

W: Alright, catch you later.

*Warlock leaves in his car and calls Mr. America*

A: Do you have any idea what time it is?

W: Ann Margret.

A: ……..come on over.

*Warlock drives over to The Base. He walks in and flicks his wrist to put Youtube on. Mr. America is already in his chair waiting. Warlock takes his seat in the recliner*

W: Welcome to The Base for another edition of Warlock’s Movie Realm. Today’s movie just happens to be the second one Ann Margret was ever in, the 1962 adaptation of the musical STATE FAIR. What’s this about? Young adults find love and fun at the fair….sounds simple enough right?

A: Righhhhhhhttttttt…….

W: Anyway, leading the cast is the legendary Pat Boone and he’s got Bobby Darin with him. Its also directed by Jose Ferrer so this might be interesting. If it sucks, at least we have Ann Margret to look at. So grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for STATE FAIR.

721. You Only Live Twice (1967)

*The Warlock is already in The Grand Wizard’s Palace in the middle of the couch*

W: Welcome to my father’s palace for another edition of Warlock’s Movie Realm. In my final movie before taking a break, my father and I continue our James Bond coverage with movie number five in the series. Tonight’s movie is the 1967 action drama YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE.

*The Grand Wizard is on his throne*

Wi: Better than Thunderball.

Wa: I hope so. So what’s this one about? James Bond and the British Secret Service must team with the Japanese Secret Service to find out who’s stealing space rockets before its all out war between the States and Russia. Now I do know a few things about this movie. Sean Connery claimed this would be the last time he’d play Bond and even though the movie grossed $111 million worldwide, revenue dropped compared to Thunderball.

Wi: It didn’t help that Casino Royale came out that year too.

Wa: For those that don’t know, a James Bond parody called Casino Royale came out the same year as YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE and spy movies were beginning to get formulaic. Ironically 30 years later, Austin Powers came out the same year as Tomorrow Never Dies. Either way, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE was supposed to be Sean Connery’s swan song, so let’s get to it. Grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE.

720. Jailhouse Rock (1957)

*The Warlock is already in his lair looking haggard as Mr. America bursts in dressed as Elvis complete with blue jumpsuit*

A: Don’t be cruellllllllll….woah, what’s with you?

W: Tired man.

A: Tired? From what??

W: You realize I’ve done a movie every single day since we jump started the S.O.F. Project? Its been over a month and I need a break.

A: Well you’re not getting one tonight, you got something I want to see.

W: Yeah yeah, I got this and I got something with my dad tomorrow. Then I’m taking a break.

A: Whatever, tell everyone what we’re watching.

*Warlock turns to the camera*

W: Welcome to The Lair for another edition of Warlock’s Movie Realm. Tonight we will be catching something Mr. America has wanted to see for a long time. As we’ve covered previously, Elvis Presley’s first two movies put him on the map in Hollywood but his third might possibly be his most famous of the 1950’s. That movie is the 1957 musical drama JAILHOUSE ROCK!

A: Play the song.

W: Later.

*America takes his seat in the recliner*

W: So what is JAILHOUSE ROCK about? Elvis kills somebody and becomes the most popular inmate in jail. 2 years ago I covered Cry-Baby and I’m guessing this is the movie that one drew inspiration from. But the million dollar question is, is it good? Elvis song and dance numbers can only go so far, even if its my favorite Elvis song. If it sucks, its only 96 minutes long so it won’t be too painful. Fun fact, Elvis had to wear a wig for parts of the movie to cover his signature look….anything for showbiz right? So let’s get started, grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for JAILHOUSE ROCK.
