W: Welcome to my father’s palace for another edition of Oscar’s Month here at Warlock’s Movie Realm. There are just five movies left and in fifth place we’re going to take a look at a movie that hits close to home, the 2015 bio drama SPOTLIGHT.
WI: The cover up of the century.
W: Exactly, but first the accolades. Mark Ruffalo was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, Rachel McAdams was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, Tom McCarthy was nominated for Best Director, the movie was nominated for Best Editing and the movie won Best Screenplay. Now for the competition, Spotlight beat out The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant and Room. I’ve seen The Martian and Fury Road, both of them are damn good.

W: So what’s SPOTLIGHT about? The Boston Globe figured out that the Catholic Church not only had been molesting children for decades but were doing their damndest to cover it up. The reason this hits close to home wasn’t because I was a choir boy, but I worked in the building a lot of this movie was filmed in while filming was going on. That was a fun time period trying to find parking. Anyway, its based off a true story and its got a great cast featuring Michael Keaton, Liev Schreiber, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams and Stanley Tucci. Speaking of Keaton, he’s the newest man to be in back to back Best Pictures. Was this deserving of Best Picture? Let’s find out. So grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for Spotlight.

W: “The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core.”
Wi: They finally got those scumbags, the church was never the same again.
