583. The Hurt Locker (2009)

*The Warlock is in The Base wearing a black tuxedo with Gargoyle shades while holding a mug of Pepsi*

W: Welcome to The Base for another special edition of Oscar’s Month here at Warlock’s Movie Realm. Tonight Mr. America and I will be doing a movie he himself volunteered to catch with me.

*Mr. America is in the recliner also in a black tuxedo with aviator shades*

A: It might have planes.

W: For once you might be right. Tonight we will be taking a look at the winner of Best Picture back in 2009, the United States military drama THE HURT LOCKER. First the accolades, Jeremy Renner was nominated for Best Actor, the movie was nominated for Best Cinematography & Best Original Score, Kathryn Bigelow won Best Director, the movie won Best Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Writing. Now for the competition, THE HURT LOCKER beat out Avatar, Inglourious Basterds, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, Precious, A Serious Man, Up and Up In The Air. I’ve seen Blind side and Basterds so THE HURT LOCKER has a tall hill to climb.

A: Yeah really, Basterds was great.

W: Exactly. So what is THE HURT LOCKER about? Jeremy Renner is a renegade bomb disposal expert in Iraq and his methods piss everyone off. It’ll be interesting to see what the conflict is because in real life, the Iraqi War took a toll on everyone involved. The movie has Jeremy’s future Avengers teammate Anthony Mackie (Falcon) along with Ralph Fiennes and Evangeline Lilly. So, let’s see if this can measure up to the greatness of Inglourious Basterds. So grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for THE HURT LOCKER

*America reads the tag-line*

A: “During the Iraq War, a Sergeant recently assigned to an army bomb squad is put at odds with his squad mates due to his maverick way of handling his work.”

W: So Top Gun only with the bomb squad?
