709. It (1927)

*The Warlock opens the door to his lair. He’s wearing a black leather jacket, Hell’s Highway t-shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and gargoyle shades. He’s holding a Mega Pint of Barq’s Root Beer*

W: Welcome to my lair…welcome I don’t think so, but enter. Enter my lair if you dare. I’m your host The Warlock.

*Warlock flicks his wrist and fire appears before walking inside*

W: Welcome to the end of Clara Bow Tribute Week here at Warlock’s Movie Realm. Now I couldn’t save the best for last but I came pretty close with tonight’s movie. Now as we covered five years ago, Clara Bow was in the first Best Picture, Wings. The role that put her in that position was the 1927 romantic comedy IT. No, not the Stephen King novel.

*Warlock takes his seat in the middle of the couch*

W: So what is IT, about? A spunky salesgirl played by Bow has her eyes on her boss played by Antonio Moreno. Unfortunately for Clara, Moreno is smitten with Jacqueline Gadson. Moreno’s lackey is played by William Austin and he wants to use Clara to get a job with Moreno. Now the thing about this movie was it was lost until 1960 yet its copyright was renewed in 1954. Also, the term “It girl” came from this movie because Clara apparently had “It”. If the early 20’s put Clara on the map, IT put her in the stratosphere. Now….is the movie actually good?

*Warlock takes a swig of his drink*

W: That’s what I intend to find out. If we’re going to finish off Clara Bow tribute week, may as well end with the movie that made her a superstar. So grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for IT.
