657. Eyes of The Totem (1927)

*The Warlock opens the door to his lair. He’s wearing a Don’t Talk About Bruno t-shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and Gargoyle shades. He’s holding a mega pint of Barq’s Root Beer*

W: Welcome to my lair…welcome I don’t think so, but enter. Enter my lair if you dare. I’m your host The Warlock.

*Warlock makes the ground rumble before walking inside*

W: Happy Public Domain Week here at Warlock’s Movie Realm. Just like last year, we’re having another tribute starting today. For those that know, Public Domain Day occurs every January 1st where media entities from 95 years earlier lose their copyrights unless they’re bought out by a major company. Last year almost every movie from 1926 entered the public domain and I caught 5 of them with 2 wild cards. This year movies from 1927 have entered the Domain including the main event we’ll get to when the time comes. Batting leadoff will be our first movie EYES OF THE TOTEM.

*Warlock takes his seat in the middle of the couch*

W: So what’s this about? A family gets settled in Tacoma when some weirdo kills the husband. The mother has to support her daughter by moonlighting as as street beggar until she runs into the murderer again. The bad news is I have no idea who is in this movie, I’ve never heard of them. The good news is if it sucks, at least it’ll be short. It clocks in at just 80 minutes so the torture won’t be long. Who knows? Maybe the story will carry the movie since its a silent film. So grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because it’s time for EYES OF THE TOTEM.

W: “After selling out a mining claim in the desolate and frigid north, Miriam Hardy moves to Tacoma with her husband and young daughter to start a new life. Things don’t go as planned when her husband is murdered by a mysterious sinister eyed stranger, leaving Ms. Hardy a destitute widow. With the police unable to help find the murderer, Ms. Hardy is rescued by a kindly elderly beggar and taken in by a beggar’s society. Miriam enrolls her daughter in a private seminary and lives a double life as a street beggar and a member of polite society, until a chance encounter one day leads her back to the sinister eyed stranger she has been seeking for years.”

W: What a mouthful.
