704. Maytime (1923)

*The Warlock opens the door to his lair. He’s wearing a black leather jacket, black t-shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and gargoyle shades. He’s holding a Mega Pint of Dr. Pepper*

W: Welcome to my lair…welcome I don’t think so, but enter. Enter my lair if you dare. I’m your host The Warlock.

*Warlock does nothing but walk inside*

W: Welcome back to Clara Bow Tribute Week here at Warlock’s Movie Realm. Up next will be the 1923 romantic drama MAYTIME. What’s this about? Its a bit complicated. Harrison Ford, no, not THAT one, is in love with Ethel Shannon but Ethel’s family forces her to marry her cousin Wallace MacDonald…..gross right? Well in a fit of rage, Richard marries Clara Bow. Nobody is happy apparently.

*Warlock takes his seat in the middle of the couch*

W: Now for some good news, up until 2008 there would have been no way to watch this movie as it was believed to be lost. Then in 2009 it was found and restored, so here we are. Obviously its in the Public Domain so I can film the screen but the drawback is its 87 minutes long. So can this complicated love rectangle be good? Let’s find out, so grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for MAYTIME.

*Warlock reads the tag-line*

W: “Ottilie Van Zandt, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy colonel, loves the gardener’s son, Richard Wayne, but her family forces her to marry her cousin Claude. Richard leaves before the wedding, vowing to return wealthy and marry Ottilie, but since she is already married when he does return, he impulsively marries Alice Tremaine.”

W: What a mouthful.
