592. Green Book (2018)

*The Warlock is in his The Grand Wizard’s palace wearing a black tuxedo and gargoyle shades while holding a mug of Pepsi*

W: Welcome to my father’s palace for another edition of Oscar’s Month here at Warlock’s Movie Realm. We only have two movies left so in second place, we have the 2018 racial drama GREEN BOOK.

*Grand Wizard is on his throne*

Wi: Wasn’t that a book?

Wa: I have no idea. Its one of the few movies on this list I knew nothing about going in. First the accolades. Viggo Mortensen was nominated for Best Actor, Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor, the movie was nominated for Best Editing and the movie won Best Screenplay. Now for the competition and they’re some good ones. GREEN BOOK beat out Black Panther, BlacKKKlansmen, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Roma, A Star Is Born and Vice. I’ve seen Black Panther and my late father in law loved Bohemian Rhapsody so GREEN BOOK has a mountain to climb for sure.

*Warlock takes his seat in the middle of the couch*

W: So what actually is GREEN BOOK about? Viggo Mortensen is an Italian bouncer who somehow becomes the chauffer for classic pianist Donald Shirley. Only problem is Dr. Shirley is a black man and this is supposed to be the South in the 1960’s. So as usual the biopic movies like Bohemian Rhapsody and superhero movies like Black Panther have the iconic scenes and songs but don’t win Best Picture because of the “empowerment”. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last, folks. Still, this may be a good movie but lets find out if it’ll be worthy of Best Picture. So grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for GREEN BOOK.

*Wizard reads the tag-line*

Wi: “A working-class Italian-American bouncer becomes the driver for an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues through the 1960s American South.”

Wa: Basically Driving Miss Daisy only the roles reversed.
