695. A Girl In Every Port (1928)

*The Warlock opens the door to his lair. He’s wearing a black leather jacket, Ooga Booga t-shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and gargoyle shades. He’s holding a Mega Pint of Pepsi*

W: Welcome to my lair…welcome I don’t think so, but enter. Enter my lair if you dare. I’m your host The Warlock.

*Warlock shoots a lightning bolt then walks inside*

W: Welcome back to the end of Public Domain Week here at Warlock’s Movie Realm. I’ve saved one for last for a special reason, it stars two actors that I like in other movies. Tonight movie is the 1928 action comedy A GIRL IN EVERY PORT. Why did I save this for last? The two leads are Robert Armstrong of King Kong and Victor McLaglen of Gunga Din. The two of them were great funny men in the 1930’s but apparently they teamed up back in 1928, although there’s no spoken dialog to hear.

*Warlock takes his seat in the middle of the couch*

W: So what’s A GIRL IN EVERY PORT about? McLaglen and Armstrong are total manwhore sailors that are after each others girls in every port they’re in. Finally, Louise Brooks comes between them and we find out who the real charmer is. Now because I know the styles of McLaglen and Armstrong, this could be really funny. If its not, its only 78 minutes long so it won’t be too painful to sit through. Also look for a young Myrna Loy in this movie as she was only 23 at the time.

*Warlock takes a swig of his drink*

W: I should point out before we get started with the movie that all but one of the movies I saw this week were still silent. “Talkies” wouldn’t become the norm instead of the fad until the following year. Point is, we’re nearing the end of the silent era so I expect more talkies then silent next January. As for now, grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for A GIRL IN EVERY PORT.

*Warlock reads the tag-line*

W: “Two sailors with a rivalry over chasing women become friends. But when one decides to finally settle down, will this mysterious young women come between them?”

W: My money is on Armstrong getting the girl.
