670. Behind The Front (1926)

*The Warlock opens the door to his lair. He’s wearing a black leather jacket, Ice Cream Man Police Department t-shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and Gargoyle shades. He’s holding a Mega Pint of Dr. Pepper*

W: Welcome to my lair…welcome I don’t think so, but enter. Enter my lair if you dare. I’m your host The Warlock.

*Warlock shoots fire before walking inside*

W: Yesterday we took a look at a 1925 movie starring Clara Bow and I figured to catch another silent movie today as well. Why? Its only 61 minutes long. What movie is that? The 1926 comedy BEHIND THE FRONT.

*Warlock takes his seat in the middle of the couch*

W: What’s this movie about? A guy gets pickpocketed on his way to the recruitment office to sign up for World War 1 and ends up in the same platoon as the guy that pickpocketed him. That does sound like a funny concept but what kind of character development can you establish along with comedy in an hour? Then again, when I covered For Heaven’s Sake last year, it was pretty damn funny for only an hour long. Wallace Beery has the lead for this one and the only movie I’ve seen him in was Grand Hotel during Oscar’s Month in 2019. The beauty of this being from 1926 is its in the Public Domain so I can film the screen. So, can Wallace Beery and the funny plotline make me laugh for 61 minutes? Let’s find out. So grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for BEHIND THE FRONT.

*Warlock reads the tag-line*

W: “During World War I a young man joins the army and winds up befriending another young recruit, not knowing that it’s the same pickpocket who stole his watch. After finishing basic training, the two are sent to the front lines in France, where they wind up in trouble with the MPs, getting involved with some cute French girls”

W: Hahahaha that does sound hilarious.
