703. Down To The Sea In Ships (1922)

<THREE DAYS EARLIER>

*The Warlock is on a skype call with Mr. Wallstreet*

Wall: Are you sure about this? You just did Public Domain Week.

War: Yeah I know, I wanted to do this a year ago but never got around to it.

Wall: You weren’t kidding when you said you wanted to wrap up unfinished business.

War: Yeah, send me Creed 3 and Venom 2 while you’re at it.

Wall: Weren’t you supposed to…….oh yeah.

War: Exactly.

Wall: Alright, enjoy.

<PRESENT DAY>

*The Warlock is already in the lair>

W: Welcome to my lair….welcome I don’t think so, but enter. Enter my lair if you dare. I’m your host The Warlock. Tonight on Warlock’s Movie Realm we begin CLARA BOW TRIBUTE WEEK! The fuck is that? 5 years ago I covered Wings for Oscar’s Month and mentioned how Bow was one of the biggest stars of the 1920’s. Well I covered a few movies of hers since then but this week we’re going to take a look at even more.

*Warlock takes his seat in the middle of the couch*

W: Up first is going to be the 1922 drama DOWN TO THE SEA IN SHIPS. Why this one? Back in 1922 Bow had won a contest in 1921 and hounded Brewster Publishing to get a job in movies. She was cast in Beyond The Rainbow a movie lost to time. Well the director of DOWN TO THE SEA IN SHIPS, Elmer Clifton, needed a tomboy and since Clara in real life was a tomboy, he cast her in one of the supporting roles at the age of 17.

*Warlock takes a swig of his drink*

W: So what is the movie about? Filmed in New Bedford, Massachusetts, we follow the trials and tribulations of a whaling ship. Now the bad news is the movie is the longest of the week at 93 minutes long but the good news is if it sucks, we get it out of the way first. So grab your popcorn, grab your drink and grab your woman because its time for DOWN TO THE SEA IN SHIPS.

*Warlock reads the tag-line*

W: “Story of the lives of the people in a small Quaker community and the adventures of a whaling ship.”

W: Quaker huh? Going way back for this one.
